In the past couple weeks I've acquired a peppermint plant, another tomato plant, like..4 potato plants we found growing in the compost pile, and more seed donated to my garden than I know what to do with or even have room for. Fortunately I made some space by moving the new tomato plant into a tub full of nice composted dirt in the sun. (And the other two today.) In their place I planted butternut squash...and in the place of the failed peppers and onions, white pumpkin.
The string beans and snow peas are doing exceedingly well. We found loads of tomato cages in a corner of my yard that had been taken over by a bush I've still haven't been able to identify...anyways...I took some of those cages apart and built trellises for the beans and peas. And the rest for my tomatoes.
Today my dad dropped off some really great looking soil that I was able to transplant my two unhealthy tomato plants into. It didn't look like it contained too many nutrients though, so I picked up a bag of tomato and vegetable fertilizer and applied an ample amount to all of my garden. I also picked up a basil plant and more jalepeno seed. I'm a whore. I planted the jalepenos in a tub in a sun with composted soil and a bit of fertilizer...so those should be good.
So I've got string beans, snow peas, lettuce (failed to mention that), an artichoke, tomatoes, potatos, cilantro, basil, peppermint, a single onion, and a peanut plant (that I discovered growing in there while digging other things up...this garden is full of wonderful discoveries) all growing. Hopefully I'll be able to add jalepenos, butternut squash, white pumpkin, and parsley to that list in the next couple weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed.
If I can, I want to dig up an area in the back yard..or maybe even the front yard and grow some hops. Speaking of, I believe we're starting a new batch of beer this weekend. We picked up all the supplies from the Beer Essentials the other day. I don't know if it's too late to start growing hops though..I need to look into it...
I also want to dig up a 2-3 foot wide perimeter along the back of the backyard and expand my garden. We'll see I guess.
Anyways, 15 more sleeps!!!
